Thousands March across Europe to Demand End to Israeli Regime’s Genocide in Gaza

Thousands of protesters took to the streets in London, Berlin, Rome and Warsaw, condemning the Israeli regime’s ongoing attacks on Gaza and demanding an end to its genocidal war and the complicity of Western governments.

In London, demonstrators marched past the British parliament carrying placards reading “End the genocide” and “Free Palestine”.

“We are here today to mark three years of the ongoing genocide in Gaza,” Aimee Shalan, director of the Palestine Solidarity Campaign, told the AFP news agency, calling for “full sanctions on Israel”.

A so-called ceasefire took effect a year ago, but the Israeli regime has continued its near-daily attacks on Gaza, killing some 1,450 Palestinians since the truce began, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry.

Meanwhile, London’s Metropolitan Police said they had made “several arrests”, including a man and a woman holding placards supporting Palestine Action, a group banned under UK law.

Police had also warned that they would use public order powers to compel people wearing face coverings to remove them, while pledging “zero tolerance” for hate crimes.

In Berlin, about 3,500 people joined a march organised by United for Palestine, police said.

The demonstrators set off from a square between the chancellery and parliament, with many denouncing Germany’s arms exports and longstanding military support for the Israeli regime.

Similar demonstrations took place in Warsaw and Rome, where protesters condemned the continued Israeli bombardment of Gaza and their governments’ ties with Tel Aviv, demanding an immediate and lasting ceasefire.

The protests came as the Israeli regime’s genocidal war has devastated much of Gaza, leaving the besieged territory largely in ruins and killing more than 74,200 Palestinians since October 2023.
