Iranian, Indian judicial officials discuss cooperation on BRICS summit sidelines

Iran’s Judiciary Chief Ayatollah Gholam-Hossein Mohseni Eje’i is heading a high-ranking judicial and legal delegation attending the BRICS gathering, which brings together representatives from member and partner countries.

The meeting in New Delhi kicked off on Friday and is scheduled to continue through September 6.

According to India’s LiveLaw news website, Indian Supreme Court Chief Justice Surya Kant has held meetings with senior judicial officials from participating countries on the sidelines of the gathering.

Discussions have revolved around bolstering judicial cooperation and bilateral relations, as well as exploring potential agreements to institutionalize cooperation among participating countries.

The officials also examined the role of arbitration and mediation in resolving commercial and corporate disputes and discussed mechanisms that could facilitate cross-border business activities.

Efficient commercial courts and mutual recognition and enforcement of judicial decisions were highlighted as important measures for strengthening investor confidence and supporting international commerce.

The use of technology and artificial intelligence in judicial systems was another major topic, with attendees emphasizing digital tools to improve efficiency and accelerate judicial proceedings.

The Iranian delegation’s agenda includes bilateral meetings with judicial officials from BRICS countries, participation in specialized panels and working groups, and speeches at the opening and closing sessions.

The discussions also seek to promote judicial assistance, exchange legal expertise, and strengthen cooperation against transnational organized crime and other emerging legal challenges among participating countries.
