Iran’s homegrown defense industry proved its worth in recent wars: Army chief Hatami
Army Commander Major General Amir Hatami says the country’s domestic defense industry played a critical role in supporting combat forces during the recent 12-day and 40-day imposed wars.
Hatami made the remarks during a meeting with Mehrdad Akhlaqi, managing director of the Defense Industries Organization of the Ministry of Defense and Armed Forces Logistics, at the Army headquarters in Tehran on Tuesday.
Hatami praised the efforts of defense industry specialists during the conflicts, saying that despite enemy attempts to disrupt the production chain for military equipment and weapons, ministry managers and employees kept production lines operating under the most difficult conditions.
The third imposed war showed that the country’s domestic defense industry, which resulted from the wise guidance of the martyred Leader of the nation, has been and will remain, in the true sense of the word, a supporter of forces on the battlefield, he said.
Hatami added that, under the guidance of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, the efforts of the armed forces and the Iranian people’s presence in all arenas had thwarted the enemy’s calculations and objectives.
He described Akhlaqi as an experienced and committed figure in the defense industry and said the Army seeks to make greater use of its capabilities to strengthen its combat and defense capacity.
Akhlaqi, for his part, said the Defense Industries Organization was ready to expand cooperation with the Army’s four branches to enhance defense readiness and meet the Armed Forces’ requirements.
Akhlaqi was introduced Monday as President Masoud Pezeshkian’s nominee for defense minister.
