In a statement issued on September 9, the OIC secretariat slammed the move as inconsistent with the international position on the city’s legal and historical status.

The OIC emphasized that al-Quds is an integral part of the Palestinian territory occupied in 1967, and that Nauru’s action is null and illegal under international law and relevant UN resolutions, particularly Security Council Resolutions 476 and 478 of 1980.

The organization renewed its call on Nauru and other countries that have moved their embassies to occupied al-Quds or announced similar intentions, to reverse their illegal decisions and contribute to international efforts toward peace based on the two-state solution.
