Yemeni forces repel Saudi-backed advance in al-Jawf
Yemen’s armed forces repelled an attempt by Saudi-backed forces to advance toward their positions in eastern al-Jawf province, destroying military equipment and killing or wounding dozens of mercenaries, the armed forces spokesperson said on Sunday.
Brigadier General Yahya Saree said in a statement carried by al-Masirah television that the advancing forces were targeted after attempting to move toward positions held by Yemen’s armed forces in eastern al-Jawf.
Saree said a large number of military vehicles belonging to the Saudi-backed forces were set ablaze during the operation and dozens of mercenaries were killed or wounded.
He added that the remaining forces were pursued in the al-Jawf desert and that gatherings of Saudi-backed forces were targeted with several ballistic missiles and drones.
The clashes come amid an escalation in fighting between Yemen’s armed forces and Saudi-backed forces in several parts of the country.
